A delegation of the European Parliament called on the Tunisians to engage urgently in an "inclusive and structured" dialogue to find a solution to the political crisis in the country.
The European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee issued a statement at the end of a 3-day official visit. It stressed the need to instill "the progress made by Tunisia on the path of political reforms and the return to institutional stability."
"We urgently encourage the Tunisians to engage in an inclusive and structured Tunisian-Tunisian dialogue, including government representatives, political parties, trade unions, civil society and women's organizations," said the European Parliament delegation.
The European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee members believe that no solution to this crisis can be found "without the full participation of all the stakeholders mentioned above."
"The European Union continues to stand by Tunisia, including through urgent and substantial financial assistance," reads the text of the statement.
The delegation of MEPs expressed the readiness of the European Parliament to "offer technical assistance for inclusive and transparent efforts for political and economic reforms, including assistance to help assess the options for electoral reform."
The statement also emphasizes the importance of preserving the country's political bodies' independence.
Since July, Tunisia has suffered an acute political crisis when the President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed had imposed measures including the dissolution of Parliament and the Supreme Council of the Judiciary, while legislating by presidential decrees.
Most Tunisian political and social forces reject Said's decisions, which they consider "a coup d'état against the Constitution." At the same time, other parties support them, believing that it is a "restoration of the process of the Revolution" of 2011.
