The World Bank (WB) provided Senegal with $495 million for four projects, announced the monetary institution.
The signing of the agreements took place in Dakar between Nathan Belete, director of WB operations in five countries of the sub-region, including Senegal, and Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo, Senegalese Minister of Finance and Budget.
"The total amount of the four agreements we have just signed reaches a record $495 million," Belete said in a WB statement.
The first agreement, worth USD 100 million, concerns improving the performance of the education system. According to the document consulted by Anadolu Agency, it will impact the study conditions of more than 600,000 children.
The second agreement concerns the project to improve access to electricity in Senegal (Padaes) for $150 million from the International Development Association (IDA/WB Platform).
"More than one and a half million people will benefit directly from Padaes through the connection of 200,000 households to the grid," said the WB statement, assuring that 200 schools and 600 health facilities will benefit from new or improved electricity services project as well.
The other two agreements concern the improvement of connectivity in the northern and central production areas for $200 million and the economic development of Casamance (southern region) for an amount of $45 million.
"These four projects are only the sign of a willingness to find answers to questions that are at the heart of the concerns of all officials and for which our institution will be at the side of Senegal," noted the statement.
