Ivory Coast: Prime Minister and his government resign

The Ivorian Prime Minister, Jerome Patrick Achi (67), appointed in March 2021, presented his resignation to the Head of State, Alassane Ouattara, during the Council of Ministers.

Alassane Ouattara announced the appointment of a new Prime Minister next week.

The Ivorian President also announced that given the current global situation, he has decided to reduce the number of ministers to 30 from 41. "I have decided to reduce the number of government ministers. Indeed, it is imperative to reduce state spending," said Ouattara.

He addressed the soon-to-be dismissed ministers. "I am convinced that you will be able to continue to serve our country in other responsibilities. I will proceed next week to the appointment of a new Prime Minister who will have to propose about thirty members. In the meantime, I ask you to expedite current affairs," he said.

Formerly, Minister of State Patrick Jérôme Achi was Secretary-General of the Presidency before being appointed interim Prime Minister. He took the post following the death of Hamed Bakayoko.
