German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has confirmed a report circulating earlier in the media that his government is considering purchasing a missile shield.
In an interview with ARD, the German chancellor admitted that the decision was not yet final. However, every scenario is considered in the face of growing Russian aggression.
The purchase of Israel's Arrow 3 missile defense system is under consideration, and since it is commercially available, it could become operational in 2025.
The missile shield would cover the whole of Germany and, according to experts, even some neighboring countries. According to media findings, the cost of the system kits is 2 billion euros.
"It is necessary to understand that we have a neighbor who uses violence to achieve his political goals. We cannot allow him to do that and that is why we have to increase our defense capabilities" - Chancellor Olaf Scholz stressed.
In the 'Anne Will' programme, the head of the federal government admitted that Germany's independence from the supply of raw materials from Russia is inevitable, although it will cause a temporary increase in energy prices. However, according to Scholz, a hasty resignation from Russian gas could end in the "pneumonia" of the German economy.
