French presidential election preliminary results. Society undecided

According to the latest results, 27.6 percent of voters voted for Emmanuel Macron and 23.4 percent for his opponent Marine Le Pen in Sunday's election. The incumbent French president said the outcome of the second round is "still unsure" and that his duel with Marine Le Pen would be "decisive for the future of Europe."

The latest provisional election results show a slightly increasing lead for the incumbent French president over far-right candidate Marine Le Pen. Macron garnered 27.6 percent of the vote, while his opponent 23.4 percent. Third-placed Jean-Luc Melechon won nearly 22 percent of the vote.

Polling stations in France closed at 8 p.m. and preliminary, poll-based election results were released. Early figures gave Macron 28.1 percent and National Unity leader Marine Le Pen 23.3 percent.

After hearing the results, Macron offered cooperation to the losing candidates: "I want to reach out to everyone who wants to work for France. I am ready to come up with something new to unite people with different beliefs and views to work together for our nation over the coming years," he declared. Earlier, 7 of the 10 losing candidates declared their support for the current head of state in the second round.

Meanwhile, Marine Le Pen argued that the choice between her candidacy and Emmanuel Macron would be a "civilizational choice- full of promise and opportunity. "She declared, "In five years, I will put France to restore it to its rightful place in the twenty-first century. My project carries great ambition for the country."

According to a poll conducted for Les Echos and Radio Classique, Emmanuel Macron is ahead of his rival by ten percentage points in the second round of the presidential election.
