"The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) government announces the increase of the basic salaries of all civil servants and public agents of the state by 30% from April and by about 45% from the third quarter," said the Minister of Public Service, Jean-Pierre Lihau.
At the same time, Mr. Lihau recalled that the government has also lowered the professional income tax (IPR) from 15% to 3%. The civil servants and unions had called for this measure and welcomed it. The salary raise will affect all civilian personnel, including the army and the police.
The Congolese government also plans to control and prevent the activity of the so-called accumulators. These agents work on several payrolls in various ministries of public administration, exploiting the country's budget. This is another measure taken by the officials to clamp down on corruption in DRC.
