The Supreme Defense Council decided on the expulsion of the Rwandan ambassador to the DRC. This decision follows Rwanda's proven support for M23 group taking military actions against FARDC positions.
The Superior Council of Defense decision is based on various reports, including ones done with surveillance drones, which reveal "that a massive arrival of elements of the Rwandan army has been observed in recent days. They support the M23 group in a general offensive against the positions of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC)".
Thus, the Supreme Defense Council asks the government to expel, within 48 hours after its notification, Vincent Karega, Rwandan ambassador to the DRC. This high authority of national defense also urges the Government "to take new additional measures to restrict access to Congolese territory against Rwanda. And to increase the strike force of the defense and security forces."
Furthermore, the Council requests the government to "reaffirm the will of the DRC to remain engaged in the peace processes of Nairobi and Luanda to restore a lasting peace, peace, security and stability in the Greater Lakes."
The fights of recent days between the M23 and the FARDC in the territory of Rusthuru caused massive population displacements. The Council called on the Government "to urgently send a humanitarian mission to assist the displaced population."
Also, The United States of America called on the Rwandan army to cease all support for the M23 rebellion. The American administration expressed this appeal during the meeting of the Security Council on the security situation in the Greater Lakes.
